How to retrieve your BitLocker recovery key

If Windows asks for a BitLocker recovery key, the key is often saved in the Microsoft account used on that device. Follow these steps to retrieve it.
Steps
  1. On a phone or another computer, open the Microsoft recovery keys page and sign in with the Microsoft account that was used on the locked device.
  2. Look for the recovery key that matches the device name or the Key ID shown on the BitLocker recovery screen.
  3. Copy the 48-digit recovery key and enter it on the BitLocker recovery screen.

Notes
  • If multiple Microsoft accounts exist (personal, work, school), make sure you are signed in to the correct one.
  • If the device is managed by an employer or school, the recovery key may be stored in their management system instead of a personal Microsoft account.
  • If the recovery key is not available, avoid repeated attempts that may lock you out further and contact Nivid.
